Dr. Jonathan Tauscheck, 2023 Freestyle Evaluator
Jonathan Tauscheck began studying music with Susan Genaw at MacPhail Center for the Arts in fifth grade. He was awarded a music scholarship in Piano Performance at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where he studied with Alexander Braginsky, earning his BM and MM. He continued his studies at the University of Iowa, completing his DMA in the fall of 2012 under the tutelage of Rene Lecuona.
Jonathan is currently serving as a piano instructor at MacPhail Center for the Arts at the Minneapolis and Apple Valley facilities. His past positions include staff accompanist and professor of Applied/Class Piano at Kirkwood Community College and piano instructor at Marion Academy of Music (Iowa). He participated as a soloist at the Franz Liszt festival and Old Capitol Piano Sundays (Iowa City), the Sondheim Center (Fairfield, IA), and most recently in Antonello Hall at MacPhail Center (Minneapolis).
His freelance work includes serving as a pianist for productions with City and Regina High Schools (Iowa City), Theater Cedar Rapids, Revival Theater (Cedar Rapids), Old Capitol Opera (Iowa City), City Circle Acting (Iowa City), and Iowa Community Theater. He was also the accompanist for the Unitarian Universalist Society and University Baptist Church in Coralville; along with the U of IA dance department. This past spring he accompanied auditions at the Liederkranz in New York City.
Jonathan is also an active composer. He has written many works for solo piano which have been performed at liturgical services, weddings, and as commissions for ballet performances. He has given solo composition recitals at MacPhail Center for the Arts, University of Minnesota, University of Iowa and Kirkwood Community College. His current composing projects include an Operetta and Piano Concerto.
